JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL TEACHERS’ CHALLENGES IN THE IMPLEMENTATION OF EXTENSIVE READING
ABSTRAK
The application of extensive reading well can support student success in foreign language learning This research reports on the challenges of junior high school teachers in implementing extensive reading and solutions to overcome existing challenges. Using case studies, researchers identify several challenges and solutions. Data were obtained from the results of interviews conducted by three junior high school teachers in Pekalongan, Central Java. The results of the study showed that there were several challenges and solutions that were analyzed based on the theories of Willy, Hidayati, and Ivone about problems in the application of extensive reading. Based on the research, researchers concluded that the main obstacle for teachers in the application of extensive reading is the low interest in reading students due to low vocabulary so it is difficult to understand the text in overcoming this is to encourage students to apply reading habits and give rewards.
